Frequently Asked Questions

How does the RiverOdds poker odds calculator work?

RiverOdds uses Monte Carlo simulation to calculate your exact win probability. Enter your hole cards and any community cards (flop, turn, river), and the calculator runs thousands of simulated hands to determine win percentage, tie probability, and draw equity for each player.

What is pot odds in poker?

Pot odds are the ratio of the amount you must call to the total pot after calling, expressed as a percentage. If the pot is $100 and your opponent bets $50, you call $50 into a $200 total pot — your pot odds are 25%. If your hand equity exceeds 25%, calling is profitable.

How many outs is a flush draw?

A flush draw has 9 outs. A standard deck contains 13 cards of each suit. If you hold two hearts and two more hearts are on the board, that accounts for 4 hearts — leaving 9 unseen hearts in the deck. The Rule of 4 & 2 converts these to ~35% equity on the flop and ~20% on the turn.

Can I use this calculator for free?

Yes. RiverOdds is completely free — no account, no ads, no paywalls. Enter any hand directly in your browser. Results appear instantly.

What is poker equity?

Poker equity is your share of the pot based on your win probability at any point in the hand. If you have a 60% chance of winning a $100 pot, your equity is $60. Equity fluctuates as community cards are revealed and informs whether calling, raising, or folding is the correct decision.

How do I calculate poker odds without a calculator?

Use the Rule of 4 & 2: count your outs (cards that improve your hand), then multiply by 4 on the flop or 2 on the turn. The result is your approximate equity percentage. For example, a flush draw with 9 outs gives roughly 36% equity from the flop (9 × 4) and 18% from the turn (9 × 2).
