RiverOdds calculates five key metrics for every hand matchup. Here is what each feature computes and a practical example.
How to Use the RiverOdds Calculator
The calculator requires no account or installation. Follow these steps to get your hand equity in seconds:
- Step 1: Open RiverOdds at riverodds.app. The card selector loads immediately — no login required.
- Step 2: Select your hole cards. Click any two cards from the deck grid to assign them to Hand 1 (your hand).
- Step 3: Select your opponent's hole cards for Hand 2. You can also add a third hand for 3-way matchups.
- Step 4: Add board cards if you are analyzing a specific street (flop, turn, or river). Leave blank for preflop equity.
- Step 5: Results appear instantly — win probability, equity percentage, and tie percentage for each hand.
- Step 6: Use the Pot Odds tool to enter the current pot and bet size and see whether a call is mathematically profitable.
For range vs range analysis (entering a range of hands instead of specific cards), use the range selector to pick a hand category such as "all pocket pairs" or "suited connectors." The calculator averages equity across the full range automatically.

Pot Odds Calculator — When to Call
Pot odds tell you the minimum equity required to call a bet profitably. The formula is simple:
Pot Odds Formula
Pot Odds % = Call ÷ (Pot + Call)
Example: Pot is $100, opponent bets $50. You must call $50 into a $150 total pot. Pot odds = $50 ÷ $150 = 33.3%. You need at least 33.3% equity to call. A flush draw on the turn (19.6% equity) should fold; a flush draw on the flop (35% equity) can call.
RiverOdds shows both your hand equity and the pot odds required in the same view, so you can make the call/fold decision without manual calculation. For a deeper dive, see the Pot Odds Guide.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I use the RiverOdds Texas Hold'em calculator?
Open the calculator at riverodds.app, enter your hole cards and your opponent's hole cards (or a range), then add any community cards on the board. The calculator instantly shows win probability, equity percentage, and pot odds for each player. You can run 2-hand or 3-hand matchups.
What does 'equity' mean in poker?
Equity is your percentage share of the pot if the hand were played to showdown many times. For example, if you hold AA vs KK preflop, AA has 82.4% equity — meaning in the long run, AA wins 82.4% of pots. Equity is not the same as 'you will win this hand'; it's a statistical expectation over many repetitions.
How accurate is the RiverOdds calculator?
The calculator uses exact combinatorial mathematics — not simulations — to compute win probabilities. Results are exact to multiple decimal places and match professional equity software like Equilab and PokerStove. You can trust the numbers for study, coaching, and hand analysis.
Can I use the poker odds calculator on mobile?
Yes. RiverOdds is fully responsive and works on smartphones, tablets, and desktops. No app download is required — open riverodds.app in any mobile browser. The card selector is touch-optimized for easy use on small screens.
How do pot odds work in Texas Hold'em?
Pot odds compare the size of the bet you must call to the total pot after your call. Formula: Pot Odds % = Call Amount ÷ (Pot + Call). Example: $50 call into a $100 pot → $50 ÷ ($100 + $50) = 33%. You need at least 33% equity to make this call profitable in the long run.
What are 'outs' in poker?
Outs are the unseen cards remaining in the deck that will complete your drawing hand. A flush draw (four cards of one suit) has 9 outs — the 9 remaining cards of your suit. A quick rule: multiply outs by 4 on the flop (two cards to come) or by 2 on the turn (one card to come) to estimate your completion percentage.
What is an EV (Expected Value) calculator for poker?
An EV calculator combines equity with pot odds and bet sizing to determine whether a decision is profitable over many repetitions. Positive EV (+EV) means the play makes money long-term; negative EV (−EV) loses money. RiverOdds shows equity instantly so you can compare it to the pot odds required for your decision.
